February 20, 2019

Whether you like it or not, remakes and sequels have existed in the Bollywood industry for a long time now. While some remakes and sequels have not failed to touch the hearts of the audience there are some that miserably failed at the box office! We bring to you the list of the best and the worst remakes and sequels of Bollywood:

1. Sholay

This is probably one of the Bollywood movies that should not have been remade. The remake of Sholay; Ram Gopal Verma’s Aag, failed miserably at the box office just as predicted even before it released. In fact, it was the biggest flop movie in 2007. Despite having a great cast of actors on board, the movie was a disaster!

2. Umrao Jaan

Aishwarya Rai failed to deliver the poignant yet subtle emotions that Rekha performed in Umrao Jaan, a 1981 classic movie that was based on Mirza Hadi Ruswa’s novel ‘Umrao Jaan Ada’.

3. Agneepath

This Bollywood classic of the 1990 is an epic piece of Bollywood's amongst one of the best Bollywood movies of all time. Two decades later in 2012, history was repeated as the Hrithik Roshan-Sanjay Dutt starrer managed to perform superbly at the box office.

4. Devdas

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s epic remake of this film in 2012 was the highest grossing film of the year. The Shahrukh Khan-Aishwarya Rai-Madhuri Dixit starrer did complete justice to the characters of the film and successfully maintained its true essence.

5. Hathyar

Mahesh Manjrekar’s Vaastav was surely a turning point in Sanjay Dutt’s career. Its sequel; Hathyar however failed to perform well at the box office. The sequel lacked a good plot and narration and failed to impress the audience and critics.

6. Phir Hera Pheri

Some movies should remain untouched and Phir Hera Pheri, the sequel to Hera Pheri clearly explains why! The movie failed to harbor the huge expectations and was a terrible let-down that made us wish that they had never bothered to return.

7. Pyaar ka Punchnama 2

Let’s admit! This movie and its sequel does not fail to entertain you no matter how many times you see it. While some of gags in the movie were repetitive, the movie sequel has an amazing storyline and was simply hilarious, not to forget the second monologue of Kartik Aryan.

8. Jolly LLB 2

Jolly LLB was a gem of a movie and its sequel Jolly LLB 2 was a brilliant follow-up. This Akshay Kumar starrer had an interesting story-line and plot and was a very well made movie. The intense performance by Akshay Kumar & the riveting courtroom scenes by Saurabh Shukla made this movie a big hit at the box office.
