  1. Baazigar (1993):

We all remember the 1993 thriller Baazigar and Shahrukh khan’s unforgettable anti-hero performance. Directed by Abbas Mustan Baazigar won 4 filmfare awards including the award for best screenplay. A few of us know that Baazigar was very much inspired from the 1991 hollywood flick ‘A kiss before dying’ directed by James dearden. In fact almost every scene of ‘a kiss before dying’ can remind you of the scenes in Baazigar.

  1. Jo jeeta wohi sikandar (1992):

The Aamir khan starrer Jo jeeta wohi sikandar is one of the most popular films from the 90s. Directed by Mansoor khan JJWS won 2 filmfare awards and 6 filmfare nominations and was acclaimed for its music and a strong inspiring screenplay.  However, not many are aware that the storyline is inspired from the 1979 American film ‘Breaking away’ directed by Peter Yates and starred Denis Christopher, Denis Quaid.

  1. Akele hum akele tum (1995):

Akele Hum Akele Tum is a popular musical drama film of the 1990s and marks as one of Aamir khan’s finest of performances till date. The movie is considered one of the best works of director Mansoor Khan. However, the 1979 American film Krammer vs Krammer can get you reminded of some of the scenes in Akele Hum Akele Tum.

  1. Bang bang (2014):

The 2014 Bollywood action film Bang Bang starring Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif is the official remake of Hollywood’s Knight and day which starred Tom Cruise opposite Cameron Diaz. ‘Bang bang’ which was directed by Siddharth Anand, received mixed reviews but was praised by some for its action, music and choreography.

  1. Kyunki mai jhooth nahi bolta (2001):

Kyunki Main Jhooth Nahi Bolta directed by David Dhawan, comedy drama movie starring Govinda received mixed reviews. Those who have watched the 1997 American comedy flick ‘Liar liar’ starring Jim Carrey, couldn’t help but notice the striking similarities between the plots of the two films.

  1. Ek ruka hua faisla (1986):

Ek Ruka Hua Faisla is a courtroom drama film, directed by Basu chatterji, revolving around the debate between the jurors to decide if the accused is guilty or not. But for those who have watched Ek Ruka Hua Faisla (1986) and the 1957 award winning Hollywood film ’12 angry men’, it isn’t too difficult to guess that the former is an unofficial remake of the latter.

  1. Koi mil gaya (2003):

The 2003 sci-fi film Koi Mil Gaya starring Hrithik Roshan and Preity Zinta, is one of the few films in Bollywood which has explored the concept of aliens invading planet earth. It is a film that enthralled almost every Indian teenager when it had released back in 2003.  However one can’t help but notice the similarities in its plot with the 1982 Steven Spielberg’s Hollywood film E.T. Extra Terrestrial.
